Where: Hjem, Wall village

Michelin starred Scandinavian tasting menu

@restauranthjem (pronounced ‘yem’ as in the geordie term for home, and indeed the Scandinavian same meaning) has an impressive waiting list so I was really looking forward to this evening. Ticked off one off my 2023 bucket list ✔️

Going to the village of Wall feels like Hjem, it’s where we started married life and welcomed our firstborn into the world. Only 10 minutes from our Hjem and 2 miles from Sycamore Cottage.

Interested in the versatility of the team we ordered a meat and vegan menu option from the tasting menu, with local produce at the top of the agenda this was going to be interesting.

The theatre of the restaurant was energetic, watching the food being prepared was refreshing and each member of staff visited our table at least once serving, keeping glasses full, presenting each of our 12 dishes in a manner that had us feeling like we were master chef judges. The whole restaurant is served at the same time which is impressive in itself.

Each dish was a mini marvel, the only way I can think of describing it is the most exquisite h’orderves you’ve ever tasted. They just kept coming and delighting. Definitely a special adults treat option rather than a quiet romantic meal for two, the food is the centre of this show.

At the higher end for prices, we’ve had guests stay with us specifically to dine here travelling from the very tips of southern England.

Luckily we were presented with a menu to take home as there’s no way I’d recall the ingredients for each course, definitely an evening that will be remembered.
